Ethiopia

“I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.” John 14:18

Dear Readers,

I want to tell you about a beautiful country. This is a place where a people’s joy is not eclipsed by their unfathomable pain and suffering. I want to tell you about this place that will always hold a special place in my heart.

Ethiopia, how I miss you! I miss your deliciously sour injera, your unique language, and your exhilarating manner of driving. I miss the coffee you drink with frequency, and your beautiful, coffee-colored skin.

One of the happiest days of my life was arriving in your country for the first time. I stepped out of that airport into the bustle of your great capitol city, and despite my knowledge that I was halfway around the world without a single familiar face to turn to, I felt at home.

One of the saddest days of my life was boarding that plan home. Home to dreamy America. I didn’t want to go home to a life of selfish luxury. I only wanted to turn and run back into Ethiopia’s arms.

Don’t ever go to Ethiopia unless you are prepared to be wrecked. Their faces will never leave you. You will never be the same again.
